Error code 1618 when installing Skype and Java, windows 10

Recently I got a new computer and had downloaded Windows 10. Since my computer is new, I haven’t downloaded Java or Skype and when I do, I get a an error code 1618. I did some research and found I could try restarting. I did and it didn’t work. The other options were; download a «clean up» or going into the registry, the first makes me wonder WHY I have to download something to clean a brand new computer and the other, FORGET it, when I did that on my laptop, it deleted a whole user account from my computer and then prevented me from going into the admin account. I uploaded what I get when I try to install.

If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you’re done. If you’re connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

I looked into the processes tab where this link instructs us to go for this 1618 error code. I found that if you go into the process of «windows installer» and end that task it should work. You might have to go into that and edit it and restrict its ability. But I just right clicked on the windows installer processes and looked into its properties, it says this same thing. select «MSIEXEC.EXE.»

Which is what the directions on Skypes link tells us to do. Just be a little bit more of an investigator and stop blaming windows 10. Sure its got its flaws but nothing is worse than a MAC.

I want to make this as clear as I can to you and anyone that believes we are all of us, meaning end users of Microsoft’s products, somehow responsible for making Windows function properly. Here it is: «I am not your beta tester!». Windows 10 is as big a mess as any OS MS has ever produced. I too am getting the 1618 code and your reference to the Skype help article on this issue is useless. The real irony is that MS actually owns Skype and you still can’t make Windows 10 and Skype work together.

It has been almost two months since your post. Has MS actually come up with a fix for this issue yet?!

I understand that you are facing issues with Windows 10. Sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.

The issue could occur if there is change in System settings or Windows installer service is stopped.

In order to help you better, please provide the information:

1. Have you made any changes to the Computer prior to the issue?

2. Are you login as Administrator account?

Refer to the below methods and check if it helps.

Method 1 : I suggest you to run the System Maintenance troubleshooter. It will resolve the common system problems and check if it helps.

1. Press Windows Key, then click on Search bar.

2. Type “ Troubleshooting ” without the quotes and click on Troubleshooting.

3. Then click on System and Security .

4. Click on System Maintenance .

5. Click on Next and follow the instructions.

If the issues still persist, refer to the below method.

Method 2: Please try to start the Windows installer service in Services Window and check if it helps.

1. Press Windows Key + R Key.

2. Type “services.msc” without the quotes and hit on Enter Key.

3. Search for Windows Installer.

4. Double click on it and under Startup type, select Automatic.

5. Then click on Start.

6. Click on Apply and click on OK.

If the issues still persist, refer to the below method.

Method 3 : I would suggest you to boot the Computer in clean boot mode and troubleshoot with the issue.

Clean boot disclaimer: A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows. You may also troubleshoot or determine what conflict is causing the problem by performing a clean boot. You must log on to the computer as an administrator to be able to perform a clean boot. Your computer may temporarily lose some functionality when you perform a clean boot. When you start the computer normally, the functionality returns. However, you may receive the original error message, or experience the original behavior if the problem still exists. If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps.

Once you perform clean boot do refer to the section “How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting” to boot the computer in normal mode.

Исправление ошибки 1603

Решение 1: Используем утилиту Microsoft Fix-It для полного удаления Skype

1. Нажмите Win+R и введите gpedit.msc. Нажмите Enter или OK.

2. Когда откроется редактор групповой политики, проследуйте в Конфигурация компьютера > Конфигурация Windows > Параметры безопасности > Локальные политики > Назначение прав пользователя в левой части окна.

3. В правой части найдите пункт «Отладка программ» и дважды кликните.

4. Убедитесь, что в списке есть учетная запись «Администратор». Если ее нет, нажмите «Добавить пользователей или группу» и добавьте ее. Нажмите «Применить» и ОК, чтобы сохранить изменения.

Решение 8: Запускаем установку от имени администратора

Method 1 : I suggest you to run the System Maintenance troubleshooter. It will resolve the common system problems and check if it helps.

1. Press Windows Key, then click on Search bar.

2. Type “ Troubleshooting ” without the quotes and click on Troubleshooting.

3. Then click on System and Security .

4. Click on System Maintenance .

5. Click on Next and follow the instructions.

If the issues still persist, refer to the below method.

Method 2: Please try to start the Windows installer service in Services Window and check if it helps.

1. Press Windows Key + R Key.

2. Type “services.msc” without the quotes and hit on Enter Key.

3. Search for Windows Installer.

4. Double click on it and under Startup type, select Automatic.

5. Then click on Start.

6. Click on Apply and click on OK.

Method 3 : I would suggest you to boot the Computer in clean boot mode and troubleshoot with the issue.

Refer to the below link to enter into clean boot state. The below link can also be applicable to Windows 10.

Clean boot disclaimer: A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows. You may also troubleshoot or determine what conflict is causing the problem by performing a clean boot. You must log on to the computer as an administrator to be able to perform a clean boot. Your computer may temporarily lose some functionality when you perform a clean boot. When you start the computer normally, the functionality returns. However, you may receive the original error message, or experience the original behavior if the problem still exists. If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps.

Once you perform clean boot do refer to the section “How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting” to boot the computer in normal mode.
